May 16 in the Cloud

Queensland Concrete and General Construction yesterday struggled with access to SharePoint.

Upon inspection we found that they had filler over 85% of their SharePoint allowed storage space.

Thanks to the recent price drop we were able to up their storage space by a further 125GB for the same amount as they were previously paying.

Adding the extra space and assigning extra resources to the sight seemed to resolve the issues they were having.

Office 365: Create Shared Mailboxes with GUI-based Tool

Previously with Exchange Online for Microsoft Office 365, you had to use the Windows PowerShell command line to create and configure shared mailboxes. Using PowerShell, you have to perform these steps:
  • Create a shared mailbox.
  • Configure the quotas for the new shared mailbox.
  • Assign the FullAccess permission so that security group members can open the shared mailbox.
  • Assign the SendAs permission so that security group members can send messages from the shared mailbox.

To make this task a lot easier, Microsoft tech Patrick Klingele-Bechinger created a GUI-based tool you can use to create and configure a shared mailbox, and then assign permissions to a security group so members can open the shared mailbox and send messages from it. It’s an easy, three-step process:

  1. Download the Office 365 Shared Mailbox Tool.
  2. Create a security group and add members.
  3. Run the Office 365 Shared Mailbox Tool to create and configure a shared mailbox.

For more information about using shared mailboxes, see Set Up a Shared Mailbox.

Office 365: Using PowerShell to give users 'Send As' Permissions

If you've granted a user access to another users mailbox but also need them to be able to send from that mailbox, there is a simple command you can run in PowerShell to allow this.

Add-RecipientPermission This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. -AccessRights SendAs -Trustee This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

To revoke these permissions, run the following command:

Remove-RecipientPermission This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. -AccessRights SendAs -Trustee This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you want to view what send as permissions a user has in place, run the following command:

Get-RecipientPermission - Trustee This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

May 9th - The Beauty of Office 365 & The Cloud

Last week my laptop's motherboard died and although that was a pain to get repaired,
It did not affect my access to the cloud in anyway, the beauty is no matter what computer I use,
Office 365 is the same. Outlook is replicated right down to every folder, every email.

So yes I was without a laptop for a week but I didn't feel disconnected,
I had full access to every file I had backed up to the cloud, all my emails were safe.

So where do you sit? Are you all for the cloud? Or are you still unsure?
